Sunday 23/12/2018 - Source: Airline news

An Airbus 320 aircraft operated by Vietnam Airlines landed in Can Tho Airport yesterday morning as a test flight to prepare for regular operations on this route early next month. Located on 268 ha in the city's Binh Thuy District, construction of the Can Tho Airport began in May of this year.

The completed first stage of the project includes a 2,400-metre runway and a 2,400-sq.m terminal to accommodate two A320 aircraft at a time and 500,000 passengers per year.

Pham Manh Khien, director of the Can Tho Airport Authority, said construction of the project's second phase will be completed in late 2010 when the airport can serve two million passengers annually.

Construction of both phases of the project will cost VND5 trillion (US$294 million).

Khien said shortly after the official opening of the airport on January, 3rd, 2009, Vietnam Airlines will launch the Ha Noi-Can Tho route with daily flights departing from Ha Noi at 14.30 and returning from Can Tho at 17.30.

A one-way ticket on the route will range between VND1.1 million and VND2.6 million, depending on the class.

He said Jetstar Pacific Airlines is also completing necessary formalities to operate flights to Can Tho Airport.

Both airlines will launch promotion campaigns during the opening ceremony for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays that fall later in January.
