PATA offers awards for best tourism agencie

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has offered 24 Gold Awards and four best-of-show Grand Awards to some best tourism agencies and government organizations in the area in a bid to promote the development of global tourism industry, reports reaching here Saturday from Indonesia's resort island Bali where PATA 2017 travel mart was being held Aiming to promote tourism agencies to offer good service for tourists by showing dreams, diversity, and identity as well as social and environmental conscience, the awards were firstly featured on the PATA Travel Mart program since its establishment in 1951.

India and Malaysia dominated the major categories of the gold awards which were presented to 21 winners.

India won three out of the event's 24 awards, including the Grand Award for Marketing for the Ministry of Tourism's Incredible India Global Media Campaign and the Gold Culture Award for Aranmula, an area managed by Kerala Tourism, India.

Malaysia won four awards at the event, including the Gold Award for an Industry Marketing Campaign for its 2016 Malaysia Gourmet Festival. It also took out the Broadcast and Print Media awards for Tourism Malaysia's Malaysia Truly Asia Global Media Campaign.

Other Grand Award winners included Thailand in the Social and Environment Conscience Program category, Macao for its 2016 heritage program and Sri Lanka for education and training.

In the Gold Award categories, Singapore was successful in the Primary Government Marketing Campaign category, the Carrier Marketing Campaign award was won by Sri Lanka, the Video Marketing award by South Korea and the Public Relations Marketing award won by New South Wales Tourism in Australia.

Indonesia's Bali Update Internet newsletter managed by John B. Daniels from Bali Discovery Tours won Indonesia's only award.

The four best-of-show PATA Grand Award winners were: Jetwing's Dream -- Education and Training Forced to bridge skills gaps and equip local young people for employment, the Jetwing Hotels' Youth Development Project provided hospitality and English language training free to school leavers from disadvantaged farming families in the Sigiriya area, in Sri Lanka.

India's Diversity -- Marketing Targeted at affluent travelers from the US, Europe, Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East, the Incredible India global campaign helped to drive strong double-digit growth in foreign visitor arrivals into India.

Macao Identity -- Heritage -- The successful inscription "The Historic Center of Macao" on the UNESCO World Heritage List prompted the Macao Government Tourist Office to launch 2016 Macao World Heritage Year, a campaign that positioned Macao as a destination offering travelers much more than entertainment and gaming.

Six Senses' Conscience -- Environment -- Six Senses Resorts and Spa's Social and Environment Conscience program aims to enhance the social and environmental performance of Six Senses' managed properties. The company hired a full time manager called "Social and Environment Conscience" to oversee the program which includes environmental awareness and management, corporate partnerships and a "Social and Environmental Responsibility Fund."
