Hungarian Group Aims To Build New Airport

Sunday 23/09/2018 - Source: Reuters

Real estate developer Biggeorge's-NV plans to build a new international airport to compete with the Hungarian capital's main airport, Ferihegy, it said in a statement on Monday.

The new facility, Alba Airport, will be built near the city of Szekesfehervar, 60 kilometres southwest of Budapest.

"Slated to open for international air traffic in the first half of 2010, Alba Airport will cater primarily to low cost, charter and other airlines serving European point-to-point destinations, offering an alternative to Budapest Airport," the company said.

Budapest's main airport, controlled by Germany's Hochtief, handled 8.6 million passengers last year.

Biggeorge's-NV, owned by private individuals in Hungary, has a portfolio of development projects valued at more than HUF150 billion Hungarian forints (USD$914 million), it said.
