More construction at Grand Junction Regional Airport

Tuesday 16/10/2018 - Source: Aviation news

expect to see more major construction at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.

This includes a new control tower, and possibly a new runway. This is according to Congressman John Salazar, who toured the airport today.

Salazar says one of the goals of the next seated Congress is to emphasize public works projects.

Salazar says congress and the FAA are working on the next generation air system, which is a computerized way to move air traffic throughout the world, and he says a new tower must be able to accommodate the newest technology.

He also says the Grand Junction Regional Airport is fundamentally important to western Colorado's economy.

"The key to economic development is having a good transportation system in and out and with the oil and gas boom... Grand Junction plays a key role," Salazar said.

Salazar sits on the powerful House Transportation Committee and the Aviation Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over our nation's airports and airways, and has been successful in securing funds for the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
