Group eyeing investment in Concorde plane

Saturday 27/05/2017 - Source: Political Gateway

An investment group led by British entrepreneur Richard Branson is considering purchasing a Concorde and reintroducing the plane to the global marketplace.

Club Concorde -- made up primarily of former Concorde executives and pilots -- has found one of the supersonic planes and plans to return it to the sky within three years if the group is able to purchase it, The Daily Mail said Saturday.

The last time a Concorde plane flew was in 2013, before it was retired after 34 years in the sky.

Branson has long been a fan of the Concorde, a spokesman for his Virgin group said, but it may not be possible to get the plane airborne again, given the length of time since it last flew.

Club Concorde's president remains more hopeful about the matter, telling The Daily Mail the group's resources should be enough to overcome such obstacles.

"We have the high-level political and financial contacts whose combined strength will ensure the return of at least one Concorde to the air within three years," president Jock Lowe said.
