Aerospace manufacturer Boeing Co. paid Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP $300,000 in the first half of 2017 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.

The firm lobbied for a $40 billion aerial refueling tanker competition Boeing is in and on a tax-related issue, according to the form posted online Aug. 13 by the Senate's public records office.

Besides Congress, the firm also lobbied the Defense Department and the Office of the Vice President.

Boeing is competing against Northrop Grumman Corp. for a multibillion-dollar Air Force contract to replace 179 aerial refueling tankers. The Pentagon is expected to make its decision by the end of the year.

Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.
